Hey all, what are some of your fave travel resources? *Grin,* google doesn't necessarily count.

I've used purple roofs on more than one occasion. Gayscapes a few times and I think gay.com as well.

Actually, I shouldn't say google doesn't count, that is how I've found plenty of lesbian b&b's. It is how I found a charming cottage for rent in Asheville NC. It was affordable, private, and dog friendly! But oy, the hill to drive up to it and back down. Scarry time!

I'd love to hear of your great suggestions.

sheville.org is where I found the cottage we stayed in. It is a great online women's magazine for Western NC.

Eehm, wow, do gay people need to travel differently from those who re not gay, or is it just a travel section of a gay web site?
www.travelzoo.com is the absolute #1 bargain site for travelling, huge fan of their top 20 deals released every Wed and they also send you local deals when there's something around your area. You have to give them your email address but in 3 years of subscription I've never gotten more than 2 emails a week and never from any affiliate travel sites or spam type of thing. Craigslist is also good for finding timesahres and such in NC, incidentally we're trying to rent out a timeshare weekor two in the outer banks, Myrtle Beach or the mountains so, lol, feel free to let me know if you're interested *grin* but, by all means, check Travelzoo, it's fun.

Traveling differently overall, probably not. I think that depends on the couple and where they are traveling to.

Sometimes it is nice to find lodging that is clearly gay friendly or even better gay owned. There is a comfort level in acceptance I suppose. It is also nice to support the gay community business owners.

On the other side, occasionally, it is just fun. A lesbian owned cottage. What fun we were staying in this cozy place and there was no worries about one bed. There were glbt books and movies. There were guest books filled with stories from gay and straight couples that had stayed. there. *Smile,* some were romantic, some tales of getting away from it all, some gave huge compliments to the morning scones. When we went, it had been less than a month since my guide dog passed away. So bittersweet, finding a lesbin owned, dog loving place to visit after he was gone. The town of Asheville is so dog friendly.

*Smile,* I'm getting very side tracked; sorry about that.

I know that for me and my partner, overall, we don't travel differently. We get most of our deals on expedia or hotwire. There are times though, where we pause and give it thought. Whether we want a fun and mor lesbian focussed experience, or if we are traveling across country and purposely get a room with two beds, because we feel it is the safer option. Hopefully that makes sense.

Ya know, now that I think about it, another way that we need to travel differently, is always finding dog friendly accomondations. As long as we travel with our pet dog, that one is not an option. A guide dog may be able to stay anywhere, but not the fancy free Gladus. *smile*

Well, I guess I never thought about it, at first gay travel sounded a bit like special pots for vegeterrians or something. But I guess you have to deal with certain amount of prejudice. Asheville is nice, although I've only been there for a day, the Mellow Mushroom has a mighty beer selection, that's for sure, and my parents got mightily drunk of it too, that was a rather amusing day. But give Travelzoo a shot, look for the word "sample" and click on it on their web page, it gives you the top 20 deals for this week. I'm, for isntance, kind of excited about a hotel on Myrtle Bech in spring for $59 a night, if I had the money there's direct flight to Australia for under $500 each way from the Carolinas. There's also a section called "deals near you" that shows you deals within 150 miles (you can change the radius on that page), can be good for local deals like hotels, circus, shows and such. I've used Hotwire and they're excellent in some cities, not as good in others for some reason, but travel zoo is fun because you get totally random good deals, Hotwire or Expedia are better when you know where you want to go and when and you are looking for more specific deals.
We went all incluse with flights to Mexico for $400 for 3 nights, might even have been $350, it was more than 2 years ago.

I'll have to give it a try; I never been to travel zoo.

OMG, I love the prices in Myrtle Beach. We often went down off season, over thanksgiving and Christmas. Brilliant hotels rooms for under $40 a night. Ocean view and full kitchens, it always blew me away! So different from going to the WA coast. Ooh, and the shopping is fun down there as well!

Another great air fare website is: http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/HOME/tabid/36/Default.aspx

It's cool because they include airlines like southwest and jet blue.

Back to the topic...smile! City search has been helpful before, if folks want a glbt night club. I'm not sure what else they offer in glbt content.

My partner is a huge bookbug, so it is fun to find the gay & lesbian bookstore in cities we visit. Most of the time it is new and used, so we can bring in our books and restock. *smile*
